"letters on the grid" book
CODING / TYPOGRAPHY
This book was developed on an Advanced Typography course using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and a coding program called Processing. Incorporating coding into this project required learning a new skill, which ultimately proved to be an enjoyable and creative challenge that encouraged innovative thinking throughout the process.

To create these letters of disarray, I put a code into Processing that took a letter of a particular Typeface, and laid it out into a grid with a glitching effect. Each time running the code, I would get a different result for the same letter. After finding each letter, I wanted a chance to make the letters look even more eye-catching, and I knew that I would need more than one color to do so. I then took a color palette of five different colors. I made each letter in Adobe Illustrator, and added different colors to each shape. This process turned my typeface of Didot into the letters seen in this booklet.

While flipping through the pages of this booklet, the reader will notice that the letters are not formed in their typical shape. At first glance, the letters merely look like a jumble of odd shapes and can be seen as imperfections, but after looking more closely, one is able to recognize the original Didot typeface. Upon further examination, the jumbled up appearance of these letter forms can be defined as beautiful.
